Costa Brava Destination Guide

View rental properties in the Costa Brava

Stretching from Almeria to Tarifa , If names mean anything at all, it means everything about Costa Brava. Costa is the Spanish and Catalan word for 'coast' while "Brava" means "Rugged". Often translated as "wild coast," Costa Brava is paradise not only for the wild-spirited and wild at heart, but also for those who are simply looking for something a little wildly out of the ordinary. It has everything to suit everyone: spirited parties and exciting water adventures, along with peaceful villages and a quiet time sunbathing - all to satisfy the needs of couples, singles and families, of all ages. On top of such captivating scenery, Costa Brava holidays offer the best of modern amenities and nightlife. There's football, squash and tennis for the conservative, and parasailing, diving and surfing for those in search of action and adventure. Possible days out can include a trip to Barcelona, the Pyrenean Principality of Andorra or the monastery of Montserrat. Costa Brava is also fast becoming a golfer's dream holiday -- a string of golf courses have been sprouting throughout the region.

This dreamy place is a coastal region of northeastern Catalonia in Spain, specifically located in the Alt Empord and Baix Empord of the province of Girona. The Costa Brava is along the shoreline of the Catalan province of Girona, the other important geographical feature of which is the Pyrenees. The Catalonia region of Spain boasts a marvelous coastline with a breathtaking backdrop of mountains, lush flora and fauna, exciting parks and wildlife reserves.

Next to Costa del Sol, the 200 kilometer Costa Brava is the best-known part of Spain's coastline - from the Catalan Mediterranean coast to the north of Barcelona. Although it has been affected by development and tourism, it still boasts of lovely golden beaches, rocky gorges, unspoiled nooks, sheltered coves, and some of the most attractive scenery in the Mediterranean. Certainly the perfect holiday escape.

Costa Brava holidays are best in the summer when the weather is warm and sunny with slightly cooler evenings. Winter is mild and nevertheless enjoyable for there are plenty opportunities for walks and sightseeing. The wild coast offers modern resorts on the shoreline, traditional Spanish villages, colorful annual fiestas, a variety of architecture and a bounty of bars and caf museums and art galleries. All are made accessible by good transport links.

The Costa Brava was home to the world-famous Spanish artist, Salvador Dali. It is well worth a trip to Port Lligat where you can explore his home. The Theatre Museum in Figueres containing a collection of his famous works of art, is also a must-visit.
