General Description
Owner-architect Jean-François transformed what once was a barn into a spacious, unique, comfortable house – the 18th century structure is still visible, more beams and a great open fire-place were brought in, The atmosphere is purely « savoyard » but with more space, wood and light than before... (and up-to-date plumbing and heating).
The rooms (each with an ensuite bath) are different, comfortable, colourful, with a mixture of heirloom furniture and modern touches – and hand embroidered cushions and books all over the place (mostly in English : Sylvie`s mother is American, so Sylvie speaks and reads English). There are some things old, and some things new, quite a few old toys... almost everything has a funny story to it, and the story goes on, written with the help of our guests.

|
Bedrooms / Bathrooms
All the bedrooms are unique but each one has it`s private ensuite bathroom. The rooms are furnished as private family space, and you will find books that have been read over and over, hand-embroidered cushions to sit on, a great-grandmother`s water-colours... and very modern beds and plumbing !
|
|
Living Areas
The living areas are spacious and full of sunshine – the dining-room, downstairs, has an open fireplace, beams and french-windows where the barndoors were. Upstairs, there is a separate room to relax in : armchairs, books... a piano... The house is furnished with a mixture of heirloom pieces and modern touches, family art, toys and colourful bedspreads, a lived-in and lived-with collection of loved things.
|
|
Kitchen / Dining
sorry : the kitchen is a private space.
Breakfast (included in the price) is served either inside or in the garden, depending on our Alpine weather.
An evening meal ("table d`hôtes") can sometimes be organized if booked ahead of time.
|
|
Outside
We are in the middle of a village, but not on the street. The garden keeps the house quiet - except, of course, for the noisy birds.

Location
Only 15 km from Annecy and 1 km from the Lake, La Grange de Julie is a quiet and peaceful house in it`s private garden with magnificent views on the surrounding moutains – and yet close to everything... "everything" here means all mountain and water sports for outdoor people, the lovely medieval town of Annecy, concerts, festivals, markets... or just getting your fill of the ever changing colours of the moutains, the sky, the lake...
Annecy is a enchanting historical town – and just 15 kms away; from our house, you can drive there, or cycle, or take a bus... or, in summer, take a boat ! Annecy is not only a lovely place to just walk around, with old passageways along the canals between lovingly restored Italian renaissance houses (market days are favorites), but is also a lively place with museums, concerts, festivals... a kaleidoscope of cultural and sports activities
Sport lovers will find a large choice of activities all year around easily accessible from our house. In winter, skiing or snowboarding, if preferred, is just 20 km away; the rest of the year, you can enjoy hiking (you can leave from our house), cycling (a cycling trail all the way to Annecy is 1 km away), paragliding (the Col de la Forclaz in front of our windows is a well-known spot), golf (two golf-clubs are less than 10 km from here),… and in summer, all the water sports : the lake is 23°, and perfect for bathing and sailing, or, higher up, canyoning,…
The area abounds in natural reserves – the first one is 2 km from our house.
It is also to be noted that very many restaurants are to be found all around the lake – you can choose from the whole scale from simple local food (mostly based on cheese) to "three star" Chef`s cooking.
Around Annecy, castles, churches and abbeys are witnesses to the rich history of our region.
Further away, Chamonix-Mont Blanc is a possible day-excursion.
Shopping facilities : Doussard, 2km from our house, has all the necessary shops.
