Property Details

General Description
2 Bedroomed single storey townhouse recently renovated from a traditional Valencian Townhouse oozing character and charm. The property is over 100 years old and is in the quiet historic part of Palma de Gandia- 5 kms from Gandia and the many Blue Flag Beaches. In a cul-de-sac of 4 other Spanished owned properties, the Moorish part of Palma has narrow winding lanes and quaint pasageways which open onto cool plazas. Nestling under the Safor mountains, Palma is almost surrounded by orange groves that stretch down to the sea. Easily accessible from Valencia and Alicante airports -we recommend a car to get the full potential of this lovely unspoilt area of Spain. This is the "real" Spain where Spanish people take their holidays and Palma de Gandia is a "proper" Spanish town - so bring you Spanish phrase book. The property is currently being shown on English TV Channel 4 "A Place in the Sun". Please visit our web site http://www.valenciaholiday.co.uk

Bedrooms / Bathrooms
2 Bedrooms -1 double (with fan) and 1 twin on the cooler side of the property. Both have fitted wardrobe and drawer space.

Living Areas
The wide Valencian doorway opens onto a spacious L shaped living area with a vaulted beamed ceiling and beautiful tiled floor. The tiles around the fireplace are original and when the church round the corner was 100 yrs old the priest came to bless the property. The hallway has seating by the front door so that you can catch the summer breeze, a formal dining area and a further sitting area with TV/DVD/CD. There is a reverse air con unit and gas and electric fires for cooler holidays.

Kitchen / Dining
Fully fitted modern kitchen/diner with dining table and chairs. A full sized oven and hob, washing machine etc. and there are plenty of pots, pans and glassware. The kitchen opens onto the patio to the rear of the property. Linen is provided.

Swimming Pool
Communal open air pool in summer months

Outside
Unusual for a townhouse, we have a patio to the rear which is walled and very private. The patio faces south and there is a parasol, garden furniture and gas bbq..

Location
Just off one of the main squares it will take you 2 minutes in the morning to collect your fresh morning bread. Jose & Rosa who own the bakery will give you a warm welcome. Just round the corner is the local butcher where you can sit and relax in one of the chairs in the shop and practice your Spanish with the locals and there is a small supermarket, a chemist and an ATM within 5 mins walk. There is also a doctor and dentist. There are plenty of cafes/bars, two of which serve tapas and delicious homely cooked meals and a Chinese cafe/takeaway. In the evening you can stroll down to the river where, where if you are lucky see the huge carp or you can pop into Gandia or Oliva (8kms away) and do some serious shopping, have a meal in one of the cafe/bars or people watch on the tree lined paseo. The sophisticated city of Gandia boasts beautiful old buildings within the traffic part of town one in particular being the Palace of the Borgias. Rodrigues Borgia (Pope Alexander VI and father to Cesere and Lucretia) was born in Xativa castle and lived in the Ducal Palace in Gandia until he became Pope. Oliva 8kms from Palma had the castle of Santa Ana which dominates the old meandering streets of the Moorish quarter.

Things to do: Visit the fantastic castle at Xativa, once the family home of Hannibal, the views are spectacular and both the castle and town are unique being the first place in Europe to make paper. There are medieval towns, castles and interesting places to see and we have compiled an information file with leaflets - some of which can be emailed to you to whet your appetite. Most towns have their own castles, even Palma albeit in ruin. There are plenty of Theme/Safari/Water Parks and a famous animal rescue centre near Guadalest Castle where there are lions, tigers, moneys etc. Beautiful scenery with cherry, almond and orange blossom and the famous Vincente Gandia Vineyard at Uteil is open to the public where you can order lunch, taste the wine and then have a vineyard tour. An excellent day out is a trip to Elche (with the largest shoe outlets in Europe) to see the ancient palm forrest, the Archaeological Museum and the Basilica ofSanta Maria where there is a life size statue of Jose Marie Escriver, found of Opus Dei. Of keen interest to Dan Brown fans is also the Holy Grail in Valencia Cathedral. A stress free journey through vineyards, rice fields (the home of Paella) and orange groves brings you to the up and coming city which is likely to rival Barcelona in the coming years. As well as the Cathedral with the Holy Grail visit the largest indoor market in Europe, you will be amazed by the selection of vegetables, meats, fish and fruit. These are just some of the places and things to do but you won`t be bored!! The recently opened le Hemisferic and le Oceanographic Museums are a must. Peniscola where El Cide was filmed is a fortified town with a castle and Sangunto nearby has an Roman Amphitheatre and old Jewish quarter. The area is also famous for its festivals, las fallas (where massive pape mache charicatures are built, paraded around towns and cities and then at the end of the week burnt!. Moors & Christians fiestas are celebated also throughout the area with each town giving the Moors (& Christians) a good run for their money. In particular Alcoy not far from Palma has the most unique where a fortified castle is set up in the square and most of the week Moors and Christians take turns to see off each other. If you like loud bangs and real gunpowder, the atmosphere is fantastic. Spanish people love fireworks and you can often hear them - be warned the louder the better.

Changeover Details
Preferably Saturday to Saturday: its best to email for availability. We can send you a Terms & Conditions on your enquiry. Arrival is 4pm and departure 10am. We will send you a map with instruction of how to get to Palma.

Extra Details
Its a very relaxing area if you like a beach holiday but the area is also scattered with castles, palaces and medieval towns and beach lovers or history buffs you will not be disappointed. The area has as yet been unspoilt by mass tourism and tour operators and is mainly where Spanish people come to spend their holidays. The local Spanish people are extremely kind and friendly and we are sure you will enjoy your holiday
