General Description
In a small hamlet on the site of the first water powered mill in the Colne Valley, Tyas Cottage is within the sheltered, wooded valley, Merrydale, and at the end of a secluded cul-de-sac. This is an ancient, cobbled pack horse road and, apart from the sound of falling water, the property is quiet and rural. Merrydale, designated as a Site of Scientific Interest, is a beauty spot and its abundant bird life includes dippers, kingfishers, herons and sparrow hawks. Foxes are often seen and a deer was recently sighted. Near the Pennine Way, Marsden Moors (National Trust), Standedge Tunnel,& the television series,‘Where The Heart is’ was set in the nearest Village.
